Volunteer opportunities exist in every area of our YMCA's operation: program support, member services and administration. Volunteering at the Y is a great way to give back to your community while making friends. For more information, contact:

Maintenance
Help us beautify the Y and our camps!
- Landscape and gardening
· Plant a vegetable garden - Painting, basic cleaning
- Camp set up and camp clean up
· Need individuals with mechanical skills to help with YMCA vans, trucks and boiler room - Pool Maintenance
Special Events
Work with YMCA staff to develop and organize events for fundraising and community relations
- Decorate
- Set up and clean up
- Obtain raffle prizes
- Help recruit other volunteers for events such as:
· Annual Road Race
· Halloween Festival
Sports
- Coaches for youth sports:
· Basketball
· Soccer
· Tee Ball
· Softball - Referees
- Instructors for all sports programs
- Instructors for summer clinics
Camp Registration
Help the camp staff with:
- Camp mailings
- Office work such as:
· File, send email confirmations, phone calls, track organize information forms.
Marketing
Website Content Volunteer
- In conjunction with the Development and Communications Department, the Marketing Department is seeking a volunteer to assist with the updating of the Y’s website with all of the program guide information on a quarterly basis. This includes all descriptions, times and dates of each program offered in each department; Childcare, Aquatics, Sports, Fitness and Wellness and Enrichment and Humanities. No website or HTML experience necessary.
Fitness & Wellness
- Teach fitness & wellness workshops such as:
· Guest doctor to speak on their expertise - Run lectures on various fitness & wellness topics
- Road Race
· Registration
· Obtain raffle prizes
· Water stations
· Race packets - Fitness & wellness special events and health fairs
- Group exercise instructors - i.e. spinning, step, yoga, pilates (must have certification)
- Fitness center staff to monitor members using equipment
- Office work
- Research
- Work with seniors
· Organize special day trips, social events, teach fitness classes, guest speakers - Challenge Course Instructors
- Monthly Wellness Events
Aquatics
- Swim Meet Volunteers
· Must have knowledge of competitive swimming for on deck positions
· Run snack stand, timers, officials, ribbon writers, clerk - Swim Instructor Assistant (must be 14 years or older)
· Position is ideal for accomplished swimmers with a desire to learn how to teach lessons. Assistants will aide the Swim Instructors during lessons and often demonstrate technique and will learn the different levels of the YMCA Aquatics Program and skill requirements for each level.
Swim Instructors (must 17 years or older)
· For individuals that have completed the Swim Instructor Assistant program or have adequate teaching experience.
· Swim Instructors teach their own class for the full seven week session. - Water Aerobics Instructor (must be 17 or older)
· For individuals with an affinity for both water and exercise. Instructors are responsible for class curriculum. Aerobic Instructors may put their own spin on their classes. This is a 7-week minimum commitment.
Development
Be a part of the YMCA community! Numerous opportunities exist such as:
- Serve on various fundraising committees
- Hand out flyers, brochures and information of upcoming YMCA events to the community
- Represent the YMCA at local community events – i.e. Faire on the Square in Watertown, Volunteer Fairs
- Photocopying, filing, and mail prep (on occasion)
- Data entry (project specific)
- Help develop, organize and staff special events such as:
· Golf Tournament Fundraiser
Membership and Customer Service
- Basic office work
· Copying, filing, answering phone calls, organizing new member packets - Greeting members and guests at the front door
- Answer customer questions and give tours of the facility
- Help create and develop new membership retention programs
- Help create and develop new member welcome activities
Child Care and Youth Programs
- Kids’ Night Out Volunteers
· Organize Friday night activities, set up and clean up materials and provide care for children, ages 6-13. - Babysitting Volunteers
· Play and keep the children happy and safe in the babysitting room - morning and evening hours - Live Y’ers After School Program Volunteer
· Plan and implement daily activities for children, ages 6-13
· Help with homework - Homework Club Tutors
· Help guide children with their homework, ages 6-13. - Camp Polliwog Volunteer
· Help with daily activities during the summer preschool camp
