West Suburban YMCA Awards 20 Camp Scholarships

Newton, MA On Wednesday, June 25, the West Suburban YMCA in Newton Corner, MA awarded 20 area children scholarships to attend Camp Frank A. Day, the YMCA's resident summer camp in East Brookfield, MA.  The recipients received their scholarships at an award ceremony hosted by the West Suburban YMCA. Each of the boys and girls qualified to attend a two-week, overnight session at Camp Day based upon their financial need and on an essay contest conducted by Hits for Kids (http://www.hitsforkids.com/), the foundation started by Red Sox first baseman, Kevin Youkilis. 

Camp Frank A. Day (www.campfrankaday.org) is located on 52 acres on beautiful Lake Quacumquasit (near Old Sturbridge Village). The camp has served boys and girls ages seven to 15 years old for over 80 years. The camp boasts 1,000 feet of shoreline and features first rate facilities including camper cabins, dining hall, climbing wall, an arts and crafts center, basketball and tennis courts, athletic fields, and much more.

The fortunate recipients of the West Suburban YMCA scholarships were: Rennae Allen, Ronald Allen, Jr., Jammy Montina Alphonse, Moassia Yasmine Bede, Wabissa Bede, Nicholas Condon, Corey Dolan, Nathaniel Etienne, Malik Goncalves, Marquis Goncalves, Shavonne Gravstock, Joseph Hines Jr., Jared King, Michael Labonte, Tyler Lobonte, Brandon Lewis, Michael Lopez, Cobi Molina, Joseph Molina and Carlos Monales.

"We are thrilled to provide this opportunity for these young students to attend our summer camp," said Pat Palmer, West Suburban YMCA CEO & President. "Camp Frank A. Day provides a unique experience in which young boys and girls are given the chance to make lifelong friendships with a supportive and enthusiastic staff combined with plenty of outdoor activities."
